Deal includes yearly lump-sum payments for long-service guards: UFCW
Employees at Securitas in Winnipeg voted unanimously in favour of a new three-year collective agreement on Jan. 6.
The Securitas workers provide contract security services to a variety of businesses across Manitoba and are represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW), Local 832.
During the life of the agreement, employees will receive a six per cent wage increase, with raises of two per cent in each year of the contract. The contract also contains increases to premiums for vehicle use, strike services, protection services and meal and boot allowances. As well, guards are now eligible for the boot allowance every 12 months, as opposed to every 18 months, said the union.
Other gains for workers include yearly lump-sum payments for guards with more than 10 years of service, according to UFCW.
As well, the employer will now pay for the cost of client-mandated training and there is an increase to sick time. A new benefit package will be introduced at a low premium rate, and it will be funded at a 50/50, employer-employee ratio, said the union.
UFCW Canada Local 832 is Manitoba’s largest union, representing over 18,000 members in a variety of industries.
