Manitoba shelter organizations ratify new agreements

YWCA Westman Women’s Shelter, Meredith Place employees approve deals

Two Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU) Locals in Brandon, Man., ratified new collective agreements on May 8.

Members of the YWCA Westman Women’s Shelter, Local 171 — who assist women and children who’ve left their homes because of domestic violence, and YWCA Meredith Place Residence — Local 424, who provide temporary housing for Brandon’s most vulnerable, both voted to accept four-year deals with their employer.

Highlights include wage increases in each year of the agreement and updated and extended maternity and paternity leave language, said the union.
