Retroactive wage adjustment of 10 per cent in deal: UFCW
United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 501 members working at Taxis Coop Quebec in Quebec City ratified a new collective agreement on Feb. 11 that provides wage increases, double-time provisions and a new paid holiday.
The new three-year contract offers enhanced job security to about 24 taxi and telephone operators who comprise the bargaining unit. Members will also receive a retroactive 10-per-cent wage adjustment in the first year of the agreement, along with wage increases of 2.5 per cent in years two and three of the contract, said the union.
Other highlights of the agreement include a new provision on outsourcing, major changes concerning the allocation of working hours, the establishment of double time and a new mechanism for position openings, said UFCW.
Employees will also receive increased premiums, a two per cent increase in vacation pay for all employees with 15 years of seniority, enrolment in the UFCW dental care plan and the establishment of a reduced working week, said the union.
UFCW Canada Local 501 represents more than 19,000 members working in food retail and processing, manufacturing, and the technical and professional sectors at hundreds of companies across Quebec and northern New Brunswick.
