AAA Canada workers in Montreal vote to unionize

About 300 new members join: IAM

Workers at AAA Canada in Montreal voted 84 per cent to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), Local 1758 on July 18.

The provincial certification means the IAM will represent every one of the workers (excluding office workers) in Quebec employed by AAA Canada, said the union.

“Our organizers worked very hard to get the vote out,” says Jean-Marc Brunet, lead organizer for IAM District Lodge 11. “Many of these new members already work in places represented by the IAM as subcontractors (Bombardier, Airbus).”

The Quebec Labour Board forced a mail-in vote lasting one month, which added to the overall length of the campaign, said IAM.

AAA Canada is a manufacturing company that offers specialized subcontracting and technical assistance services related to industrialization, production and supplier monitoring processes in the aerospace and transportation sectors.

The IAM represents about 10,000 members working in the Canadian aerospace sector.
