Saint John Airport workers on strike

Electricians, administrative staff without a collective agreement for three years

About 25 unionized workers at New Brunswick’s Saint John Airport are on strike after mediation failed between the union and airport officials last week.

UPDATE: Saint John Airport workers reach agreement, end strike

The firefighters, electricians and administrative staff have been without a collective agreement for three years.

The members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada have decided not to put up a picket line, but will reassess this decision pending results of mediation, which resumes Aug. 23, 2011.

"These workers provide a valuable service to the traveling public in Saint John," says PSAC Atlantic region vice-president Jeannie Baldwin. "But they haven't received a pay increase since January 2008."

Upon the mediator's request, the issues at stake are to be kept confidential during the current process of mediation, according to the union.

Officials with the Saint John Airport have said that it’s business as usual for travelers as flights are continuing in and out of the airport.
