Sunwing flight attendants join CUPE

700 attendants join union representing 10,000 airline workers

Sunwing airlines’ 700 flight attendants have voted to join the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the union announced in a press release.

“We welcome the flight attendants from Sunwing to the CUPE family,” said CUPE national president Paul Moist. “Flight attendants, like all workers, want to have decent paying jobs with rock solid health and safety provisions… we look forward to representing Sunwing flight attendants.”

With the addition of Sunwing flight attendants, CUPE represents nearly 10,000 flight attendants, including those at Air Canada, Air Transat and CanJet, and ground agents at Porter Airlines in Ottawa.

In January 2012, the Sunwing Pilots Association (SUNPAC) merged with the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union. The CAW represents approximately 12,000 Canadian airline workers, including ticket agents, ground handling, pilots, mechanics and crew schedulers.
