Doctors’ association charges government with bad faith bargaining

OMA claims government is approaching members directly

The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) is charging the provincial government with bargaining in bad faith by misrepresenting its own position and that of the OMA to the public and bargaining directly with members.

The challenge under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was filed on Ontario Superior Court on July 9.

The OMA wants the court to confirm it as the legal bargaining representative of physicians, reverse the fee cuts made by the government on May 7, 2012, and order the government to return to the bargaining table.

The May fee cuts included what the government termed a “real wage freeze” for doctors.
