Wages increase by $1.70 per hour: UFCW

Employees at Minute Maid in Peterborough, Ont., ratified a new four-year agreement that brings improvements to wages and contract language.

Operating in the Peterborough community since 1948, the Minute Maid facility is home to 110 United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Local 175 members who produce nearly 95 per cent of all Minute Maid products sold in Canada, said the union.

The union negotiating committee was able to secure the continuation of the employees' health benefit plan, as well as the following improvements:

  • Wages improve for both full- and part-time workers by $1.70 per hour,
  • All members receive a lump sum payment of $1,000 in the first year of the agreement,
  • Members receive increases to the boot allowance and freezer-wear allowance,
  • Maintenance workers receive an increased allowance for the purchase of tools,
  • New language addresses cross-training and job postings.
