While negotiations continue, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) began job action on Nov. 9 in Hawkesbury, Alexandria, Napanee, Collingwood, Muskoka, Pembroke, Hearst, Englehart, New Liskeard and Kirkland Lake, all in Ontario.

Rotating strikes also continue in the Gaspé area, Granby (including Acton Vale, Eastman, Sutton and Cowansville), Drummondville and Rimouski, in Quebec, in Goose Bay, Labrador City and Wabush, in Newfoundland and Labrador, and in Cranbrook, Kamloops, Penticton, Quesnel, Vernon and Williams Lake, in British Columbia.

Since Oct. 22, rotating strikes have shut down operations in more than 150 communities across the country, said Canada Post.

Meanwhile, strikes have ended in Brantford, Oshawa, Guelph, Midland, Orillia and Parry Sound, Ont. and in Quebec and Nova Scotia communities where strikes had started yesterday morning, according to the Crown corporation.

Canada Post has been working hard to minimize the service impact to Canadians, but the union’s escalating strikes continue to cause backlogs in our national, integrated delivery network, said the employer.

As a result, customers could see delays of several days. Mail and parcels will not be delivered or picked up in impacted areas while the union continues their strike activity, said Canada Post.

The Minister of Labour has extended the mandate of Morton Mitchnick as mediator for a period of from days (until Nov. 10) to assist the parties in reaching a resolution, said the Crown corporation.
