Toronto school bus drivers vote to strike Thursday

Students in the north and east areas of the city could be affected this week

Some Toronto students who take the bus to school could be without a ride on Thursday morning.

Toronto bus drivers represented by the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) Local 4268 have voted 91 per cent in favour of striking if they are unable to reach a deal with Stock Transportation later this week.

About 600 Stock school bus drivers drive students in the north and east areas of the city with the Toronto District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board and the Toronto French School Board.

"We are extremely hopeful that a strike can be avoided," said CAW Local 4268 president Debbie Montgomery in a press release. "We do not want a disruption in service for Toronto students.”

Compensation related to hours of service is the outstanding issue remaining with negotiations.
