WorkSafeBC and CEU ratify deal

2-year deal includes modest wage increases

WorkSafeBC and the Compensation Employees’ Union (CEU) have ratified a two-year agreement under the province’s Cooperative Gains Mandate, which provides employers with the ability to negotiate modest increases from savings within existing budgets.

“This mandate gives employers and unions the opportunity to find creative solutions, and this means no two settlements are going to be alike,” said British Columbia’s finance minister Michael de Jong. “We are going to see unique settlements in every sector and with each employer.”

The deal includes wage increases of two per cent effective April 1, 2012 and another two per cent on April 1, 2013.

The CEU represents about 2,500 workers at WorkSafeBC who enforce occupational health and safety rules and provide claim settlements and health-care services to injured workers.

The 2012 Cooperative Gains Mandate applies to all public sector employers whose collective agreements expire on or after Dec. 31, 2011.
