CBC, union ink new contract

2-year battle at bargaining table ends

After two years of negotiations, CBC’s union in Quebec has reached a new collective agreement.

Earlier this week, about 1,700 on-air personnel and programming employees represented by the Syndicat des communications de Radio-Canada (FNC-CSN) penned a new deal. The agreement was reached after the CBC and union sought assistance from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

The agreement covers employees at the public broadcaster’s offices in Quebec, as well as Moncton, N.B.

As part of the new deal, workers will reportedly get a three per cent wage increase over the life of the contract, which expires in February of 2015.

“I congratulate the CBC and the Syndicat des communications de Radio-Canada on reaching a new collective agreement,” said Kellie Leitch, the federal labour minister. “Your successful negotiations show your mutual dedication to the important service you provide for Canadians.”
