Employees in Sun Media Division look to join Unifor
Sun Media Division workers launched an organizing drive to join Unifor.
The Postmedia employees — working in Barrie, Ont. — are attempting to organize under Unifor Local 87-M.
The local currently represents Postmedia/Sun Media employees at other newspapers and websites throughout the province.
Unifor Local 87-M also represents employees at Metroland Media’s Barrie Advance and Midland Mirror newspapers.
“Unionized Sun Media — now Postmedia — employees have long benefitted from having collective agreements,” said Unifor Local 87-M president Paul Morse.
“They’ve made advances in wages, benefits and pensions.”
According to the union, the employees seeking representation are struggling against years of wage freezes and clawbacks in benefits.
