Community living workers in Virden, Man., ratify new deal

Revamp of night-shift allocations part of contract: UFCW

United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW), Local 832 members at the Association for Community Living (ACL) in Virden, Man., ratified a new contract on July 24 by 100 per cent.

Despite hard bargaining by the employer, fuelled by the austerity agenda of the Brian Pallister conservative government, the local union committee successfully fought back against concession demands and it was able to clean-up contract language to benefit the membership, said the union.

The new deal also revamps and improves the night-shift allocation process.

ACL Virden provides housing to people with developmental disabilities, and supports families through advocacy, individual consultation, and training and information. ACL members provide essential support by helping clients with their daily needs, including eating, bathing, doctor appointments, and recreational activities.
