Sixty workers at VCI Composites in Saint-Lin-Laurentides, Que., joined the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local, 1758 on Jan. 14.

“These workers had their own independent association and approached us to sign a service contract in 2017 in order to service their collective agreement with the employer,” said Pierre Grenier, IAM district lodge 11 directing business representative. “That service agreement has now expired and they have chosen to join the IAM and we will now begin bargaining their first IAM collective agreement.”

The IAM is the largest union in Canada’s aerospace sector.
