Retail workers at Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) at the Broadway location in Vancouver are the newest members of United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 1518 after voting on April 23 to join the union.

“We have a lot of experience with co-ops and we are excited to add MEC to that group,” said Kim Novak, UFCW 1518 president. “The co-operative movement shares much in common with the labour movement, and that values alignment makes for a good fit.”

UFCW Canada, Local 1518 represents 22,000 members working in the community health, retail, industrial, and professional sectors across British Columbia.
