Workers to save 12 per cent on group insurance costs: Teamsters

Workers at Kingsway Bulk in Laval, Que., voted to ratify a new five-year collective agreement on July 8.

About 80 per cent of employees approved the new contract, which will provide rate-paid drivers a two per cent rate increase per year. Hourly drivers will receive a salary adjustment the first year, as well as a two per cent increase in subsequent years, said Teamsters Local Union 931.

Kingsway Bulk workers will also save 12 per cent on their group insurance costs, said the union.

Kingsway Bulk is a trucking company that transports molasses, flour and oil, among others. The previous collective agreement ended on June 30, said Teamsters.

Teamsters represent 125,000 members in Canada. In Quebec, Teamsters represent more than 35,000 workers, including 5,500 in the trucking industry.
